The Dipper:
A Black Tortoise Constellation
Key Star: Phi Sgr (Phi Saggitarii)
The Dipper has six stars. Ancient Chinese Astrologers call it Tou, a ladle or measure, ruled by Jupiter. It's astrological symbolism is described thus:
It is the sign of recompense, satisfaction and completion; filling up, finishing, and rewards for tasks that have been fulfilled. It is the constellation that presides over wine, wine merchants, and makers. It is the emblem of thanksgiving to spirits for their benefactions.**
Early Arabian Astrologers called the Dipper Al Baldah. Here is their Portent:
Favorable for harvest, gain, buildings, and travelers, but causes divorce. With Moon here take medicine, navigate and put on new clothes.*
In ancient India, Astrologers called the Dipper Uttara Ashadha, and offered the following Portent:
A stable asterism belonging to the Kshattriya caste and favorable for coronations, expiatory ceremonies, planting of trees, sowing of seeds, building of towns, and matters of a permanent nature when containing the Moon. Those born on the lunar day will be honorable, handsome, happy, religious, fond of large animals and will be soldiers or wrestlers. With Moon here at birth native will be obedient, polite, popular, grateful and have many friends. Rules wash-houses and the hips.*
