The Yellow Dragon of the Earth

The Yellow Dragon is central to the ancient Chinese Lunar Mansions. Much about this Mansion is shrouded in mystery and knowledge about the Yellow Dragon has been lost. Some scholars of ancient Chinese Astrology do not even mention the Yellow Dragon. Considering that this concept appeared nearly five thousand years ago, it's not too surprising that some of the ideas surrounding it have disappeared.

One legend about the Yellow Dragon is that it emerged from the River Luo and gave the Emporer the elements of writing. Another is that the breath of the Yellow Dragon governed the change from day to night and the changing of the seasons.

The Yellow Dragon is represented by the Earth, as the source of all the elements and the center of the universe. It is said that the Yellow Emporer, Huang Di, is the ancestor of all chinese people.

Of course this leaves open a few questions but we will probably never know the answers to them.
